OVIEDO, FL (September 24, 2015) – HCA, the nation’s largest healthcare company, broke ground today on a new 64-bed acute care hospital in Oviedo.
Oviedo Medical Center will be built on the same property where Oviedo ER, a freestanding emergency department that is affiliated with Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford, is currently located. Oviedo ER will be expanded to 22 beds and will become the Oviedo Medical Center emergency department. In addition to 24/7 emergency care, the new hospital will bring a full range of healthcare services to east Seminole County and surrounding communities. Services will include medical and surgical inpatient units, intensive care, medical cardiology, telemetry, cardiac catheterization, inpatient and outpatient surgery, women’s services including labor and delivery, cardiopulmonary services, comprehensive diagnostic imaging and physical, occupational and speech therapy. When it opens in 2017, Oviedo Medical Center is expected to serve more than 35,000 patients in its first year.
“We’re proud to continue expanding HCA’s presence in Central Florida with Oviedo Medical Center, which will become our fourth full-service hospital in the region, including our two provisional Level II trauma center facilities,” said Michael P. Joyce, FACHE, President, HCA North Florida Division. “As the nation’s leading provider of healthcare services, our extensive resources and expertise will provide patients with a continuum of quality care, and we look forward to offering residents additional options to meet all their healthcare needs.”
The $109 million, 198,000-square-foot construction project is expected to take between 18 and 24 months to complete. A new medical office building will also be built adjacent to the hospital. Oviedo Medical Center will bring an estimated 200 new jobs to the region, including nurses and other skilled medical professionals as well as a wide variety of support positions. The hospital’s medical staff will include specialists in primary care, cardiology, general surgery, gastroenterology, orthopedic surgery, neurology, pulmonary critical care, urology, nephrology OB/GYN and hematology/oncology.
“Oviedo Medical Center will have a significant impact on the quality of life in the region,” said Oviedo Mayor Dominic Persampiere. “Not only will we now have convenient access to quality medical care, we will all benefit from the economic impact of new jobs, tax revenue and community support the hospital will bring. We are incredibly grateful to HCA for sharing our vision and staying the course to bring us to this great moment in the history of our community.”
