Oviedo Medical Center Groundbreaking Scheduled for September 24

OVIEDO, FL, September 15, 2015 – Kenneth C. (KC) Donahey has been named CEO of Oviedo Medical Center, a 64-bed acute care HCA Healthcare facility scheduled to break ground on September 24.

Donahey will assume the position October 1, bringing more than ten years of healthcare administration experience to this role. For the past two years he served as chief operating officer at West Florida Hospital, HCA’s 515-bed hospital in Pensacola, overseeing key service lines including cardiology, surgery and oncology as well as the hospital’s ancillary departments and Ethics and Compliance program. Donahey also played a key role in strategic planning and helped West Florida Hospital earn many healthcare quality awards and recognitions.

Donahey’s previous experience also includes roles as chief operating officer at Hendersonville Medical Center in Hendersonville, TN, and associate administrator at Parkridge Medical Center in Chattanooga, TN. He earned his Master of Business Administration from Vanderbilt University and received his Bachelor of Business Administration from Bucknell University. He currently serves as a board member for both Covenant Hospice and the United Way of Escambia County.

“It is a tremendous privilege to join the vibrant community of Oviedo and play a key role in broadening patient access to quality care,” Donahey said. “I look forward to being part of a dedicated team who will bring a world-class healthcare resource to east Seminole County and the surrounding region.”

“KC’s strong track record with HCA makes him an ideal choice to lead Oviedo Medical Center as we continue expanding HCA’s presence in Central Florida,” said Michael P. Joyce, FACHE, President, HCA North Florida Division. “His leadership will be invaluable as HCA seeks to offer Seminole County residents additional options to meet all their healthcare needs.”

The groundbreaking ceremony for Oviedo Medical Center will be held Thursday, September 24, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. The ceremony will take place on the Oviedo Medical Center site located at the intersection of Red Bug Lake Road and Broadway Street (S.R. 426). Parking for the event will be available at Oviedo Mall with shuttle service provided to the site beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Oviedo Medical Center will be built on the same property where Oviedo ER, a freestanding emergency department that is a department of Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford, is currently located. Oviedo ER will be expanded to 20 beds and will become the Oviedo Medical Center emergency department. In addition to 24/7 emergency care, the new 64-bed acute care hospital will bring a full range of healthcare services to east Seminole County and surrounding communities. Services will include medical and surgical inpatient units, intensive care, medical cardiology, telemetry, cardiac catheterization, inpatient and outpatient surgery, women’s services including labor and delivery, cardiopulmonary services, comprehensive diagnostic imaging and physical, occupational and speech therapy. When it opens in 2017, Oviedo Medical Center is expected to serve more than 35,000 patients in its first year.
